I'm Emily, a Canberra based Personal Branding photographer. I'm excited to share a little more about my journey today!
Well hello again! Our journey together is only just beginning, and I’m so grateful to have you here. They say business isn’t personal, but in my case, it is (in the best way possible!). I started my business because I wanted to share my passion for visual storytelling with the world.
For me, the journey to getting photos of myself together with my loved ones ended up long - much longer than expected!
As a photographer, throughout the years I have taken countless photos for my clients, but I’d never actually had professional photos taken with my family as adults. In 2019 I felt it was time to change that!
However wrangling family members and generating their enthusiasm for the idea proved quite difficult, especially considering my brother lives in another state. Eventually in early 2020 I managed to pick a date that suited everyone, we chose a location, and I booked the photographer (My much-trusted former employer and mentor). Everything was in place… but then the pandemic had other ideas, and lockdown = cancelled photoshoots.
Months later in spring of 2020, it was time to revisit the idea of booking a photoshoot. I decided this time to make it a couples shoot with just my boyfriend and I, as it wasn’t quite the right time for my family to get together. We agreed we would do a proper family session later. The pink cherry blossoms were out at the time, and as they only bloom for two weeks, I wanted to make the most of it! I bought a pretty pink dress (to match the cherry blossoms) and booked in my hair and makeup.
Some stress of my boyfriend only organising his outfit the night before followed, including a last-minute trip to Kmart to buy an iron for his very wrinkly shirt. Clearly out of the two of us I was the one most keen for this photoshoot! Mental note for next time! After all of that, I woke up sick the next morning, so I rescheduled the photoshoot, only to get sick again when the new date rolled around. At this point I felt so defeated and disappointed, I gave up.
… but that’s not where the story ends!
